Body Positivity, Aging Gracefully, and Making Changes

Getting Naked, Going Gray, and How To Get Out of a Rut

I recently did an fun interview with comedian Jason Hadley. I was super pleased with the interview because it was a spur of the moment thing so Jason didn’t have time to do research on me. Inevitably, when I have some sort of an interview, the interviewer does research, discovers that I did nudity 20 years ago and that’s all we talk about for the entire interview. And it gets really boring for me. I’ve been having the same conversation for two decades. Yes, I am comfortable with my body. I am so comfortable with my body, so accepting of what is, flaws and all – that I am willing to appear nude on film while performing as an actor. But I like to think that’s not the most interesting thing about me. I like to think I offer the world a whole lot more than just the fact that I’m comfortable with my body. We all have bodies. It’s our minds and hearts that make us interesting.

So it was an absolute delight that Jason did not have time to do research and we got to talk about what I am doing now as opposed to what I have done in the past. By the way, that’s not to say I won’t continue to be an actor who is so comfortable in her own skin that she is willing to be seen nude, flaws and all. The right time, the right script… sure! You’ll probably see me naked until I’m 80. Assuming of course there are any roles written that require an 80-year-old woman to be nude! There was a lot more call for me to be naked at 25 than at 50 and I’m sure there’s going to be even less when I’m 80!! Give it a listen…
My latest video talks about being in a rut and getting yourself out of it! No! I don’t have any answers. I didn’t even realize I was in a rut for a long time. I think we all get into ruts and it takes real work to pull ourselves out of them. These videos that I am posting on YouTube are also another way of me forcefully pulling myself out of a rut. I was sitting around waiting for something to happen. Waiting for that audition, so that I could get the next job. But it’s a numbers game out there! In my twenties I went on auditions 4 times a day, 5 days a week! So yeah, I had many more opportunities to get told “no” which meant more opportunities to hear that wonderful “yes!” But the industry is very different now, so much of the movie and television shows are shot in Canada now, or other states. There just isn’t as much business here as there once was. Fewer chances to hear “no” means even fewer chances to hear “yes”. Sitting around waiting is boring but I got into that rut. Then, I made a video about dyeing my hair gray and a lot of women liked what I did and asked for more…

Also, you may have noticed I now have ads to products on Amazon now. I signed up as an affiliate and if you choose to purchase anything, I get paid a teensy commission. Help a starving artist out! The links highlighted in blue are my own suggestions and the ads at the bottom are randomly selected by Amazon based on my content so don’t be surprised if there is occasionally a book on Parenting…..
Did you happen to notice what I am wearing in the pic at the top of this post? Otomix Yoga pants (I have 14 pairs) and a tank top. It was Take Your Rut To Work Day…
