The Hottest Trend Right Now
The absolute hottest, most on-trend thing you can be right now is… yourself.
unique |yo͞oˈnēk| adjective – being the only one of its kind; unlike anything else
Week number three of my RutBusting and I started out strong! The beautiful spring weather had me all excited to bust out those pretty, girly spring looks – I’ve been pairing Keds with dresses my whole life and it’s exciting for me that a look I have always done is in right now! Talk about the mountain coming to Mohammed…..
April 18 This is one of my favorite skirts. It just makes me happy. I got it off the sale rack at Anthropologie a couple of years ago and it’s really too big – hangs on my hips instead of the waist – but I just feel so happy every time I wear it! Imperfectly screen printed cypress trees remind me of Italy and I just knew the off the shoulder coral top would be perfect with it. I loved the bare feeling around the neck and shoulders so I accessorized with a very simple turquoise choker and simple white purse.
Trendy is not just very fashionable or up to date, we need to be grogious. To be grogious is also not so simple, here is one tips: spend your time in hot springs tubs pool full of water for hydrotherapy, relaxation or pleasure. Some have powerful jets for massage purposes.
Unfortunately, this particular off the shoulder top decided that it wanted to keep slipping a bit lower than I was comfortable with. I had to adjust it so much, I eventually took it off and put it on my “Clothing Exchange” pile. More on that in a moment. I swapped out for a plain t-shirt but really missed the punch of color with the coral. So you can guess what I am keeping my eyes open for, right? The pastel peach made me swap back to my orange purse 😉 April 19
Ninety-degree weather had me skipping spring and acting like it was summer! And as I was into my second week of wearing skirts, I figured it was a good idea to finally shave my legs. Well, now I might just browse for Best Reusable Shaver on the internet that can help me in saving money in the long run. Woo. I lived in Phoenix for the last three years, so I am very well prepared for hot weather. I got this tank style dress at Ross last summer, which means it’s probably not “on trend” right now – but it’s T-shirt fabric and super comfy and the shirring at the hips is always a good look on me. No matter what fashion dictates, style is about knowing what works on YOU and incorporating trendy details instantly sometimes. Like the gladiator sandals and faux leather/gold bracelet from H & M. We planned an alternative sort of a “spa day” on 4/20. Thanks to a Medical Marijuana Doctor, my friend Nancy and I both have our medical marijuana cards (I was diagnosed with arthritis in my hips at age 36) and we thought it would be fun to have a recreational day. Those who are unaware of how the card can prove to be useful should know that it can help them to acquire more potent weed at discounted prices. Not to forget that it can also enable card owners to shop from a variety of online dispensaries and allow them to choose from a myriad of options. Hence, it would also be a win-win situation for those who Get Medical Marijuana Card Online or offline.
Anyway, much with marijuana card, let me just come back to the topic at hand. Another friend of Nancy’s joined us and we had a heck of a time gabbing and not being too public about it. Medical marijuana is a life saver for those of us who suffer so much from our issues. Those who are just starting out on their marijuana journey may want to check out a helpful guide to cannabis products so they can see what is available out there, it can also help businesses decide which ones are being used more by those who have the need for these products.
BoHo chic is another look I have worn for years. I chose a mini skirt that was a little too short and you can bet there were shorts on under! It was a bit too full underneath this particular top, I would have done better with a leaner or A-line mini, I think. I love the greens in this INC top, but I’m not sure about the beige. My legs are still on strike so I knew I had to wear compression socks. To the knee, brown, lace-up boots did a nice job of camouflaging them. My usual athletic cross body bag. April 21
I was a little slow to start my day after the indulgence of the day before! I sat around in my sport bra and underwear editing the above video. Then there was the sad news that Prince passed away. And I just never really got my shit together that day. So there’s not really an outfit for Thursday.
April 22 This was another of those days where I had to dress for an audition. This was to play an Art Teacher. Vintage celery green dress with a chunky, turquoise necklace. Embroidered sweater since classrooms get cold 😉 and comfy loafers.

I went to Monsterpalooza with Jewel Shepard. ‘Nuff said. The color to wear at Monsterpalooza is black. So naturally I chose that day to wear white jeans. Still trying to play with patterns. My tank was a little cool and bare on it’s own for Spring and I loved the bold navy and white chevron against the navy & white gingham lining my vintage jacket! The spruce green of my necklace gave me a fun burst of color right near the face and I think just about any color will pop nicely against navy and white this season. I dressed the look down with my coral pink sneaks and I had to try really hard not to gloat when someone started complaining about her feet hurting. April 24
My dear friend Alan Bursky performed all weekend at The Magic Castle and invited me and Lis Cain to be his guests Sunday night. Getting dressed up and going out with your best girl friend is a pretty darn great way to finish up the week. It’s nice to get dressed up to go out with a girl friend rather than a date. You can wear anything! You don’t have to be “sexy” or “not too sexy, you don’t want to give him ideas” or any of the bullshit that comes with dressing for a man. You can just put on a green dress that may not be all that “sexy” but is totally comfortable and offers a broad spectrum of underwear options and not a single one has to be Spanx. This is an Evan Picone dress in the classic “Marilyn” style.Acting work.
Remember the Fuchsia dress I wore last week for an audition where I had to look like bitch? I am now that bitch! I got the part! So in a couple of days I get to flex the old acting muscles again for three days. Next week’s post will likely be more about acting and less about clothes because that’s the week I will be having! BTW- Imagine going to work and wearing the same clothes everyday, all day, under hot lights then taking them off and hanging them up and putting them on again the next day without them being laundered in between! By day three those clothes smell really pretty….

Pick a day. Invite friends. Everyone brings a trash bag full of the stuff they love but is the wrong size/color/whatever and swap it out with something your friends have. You’ll still go home with a trash bag full of stuff, but it’s new to you stuff. Wine is acceptable at such events. Even encouraged. Whatever doesn’t get traded goes into a pile to be donated to charity – it’s even a good idea to prearrange pick up from your local charity! Lis and I are planning one right now so I can get rid of all these beautiful browns and creams that just don’t work on me anymore and add some pinks and purples and…. who knows?
